Located a pair of coyotes right at dark on Wednesday night. Friday at 9:30 in the morning while checking traps I went back to the area I thought they had been and got this female to come in for a peek. Hit her at 196 yards, got her to stop before getting into the rocks.
Jamie, That is some nice looking country. Looks pretty Catty to me. Do you have your residency established yet in Wyoming? I take it this is where you shot that coyote and the picture.
Lots of cats back here. I have caught 5 out of this area with a dozen or so coyote sets. A cat trapper would clean up. There is a 60' - 80' drop off right here to the bottom of this old waterfall. pretty dry now but would have been pretty neat to see back in the day. Finally got this coyote to howl when I was close enough to get a good feel for where her and her mate have been hanging out. She looked over her shoulder once and I would have like to have waited tosee if he would come in but I did not have enough time. She was going to get into the rocks and I would not have a shot until she was on top of me. Left the shotgun at the truck. After I shot her I called for about 15 - 20 minutes longer but he never showed. He is not going any where and if I get time this week I will go see if I can get a poke at him.
you left a good size hole in her!! I am getting a little itchy, damn North Dakota and there 3 weeks of deer hunting. What am I going to do with myself???

We are up here in Balta deer hunting and smoking the jacks. We have kicked alot of dogs out of cat tail sloughs but did'nt shoot in hopes to come back and call them later. Point is not 500yds on the run but got a jack yesterday evening at 377yds dead run
I would rather have a slow hit than a fast miss...
Cool, great practice. I have shot 600 rounds through my .22 mag in the past few months and most of those are at Jacks and praire dogs. Hit a P. dog at 213 yards with a 597 Rem. .22 mag. and a 4X scope.
well there is going to be a week off in minnesota around where i hunt and i think that i am going to try to capitalize on that opportunity Great pics Jamie!!! That is a pretty nice hole that you put into that female

My mind belongs to my work,
My heart belongs to my family,
BUT MY SOUL BELONGS TO THE COYOTES!!!
And i have to agree don't just sit and dream about when deer season is over and get nothing done. Paint a gun, practice shooting, Locate on nights that its calm, build snares its endless a guy always has something he should be doing.
you guys crack me up!! your mind never leaves killing coyotes What does your wives think when all you talk about is building snares and shooting coyotes!
