Since almost every animal that is prey for a coyote is nocturnal i would not be afraid to use any distress sound. Right after sun down and right before sun up i would use the distress sounds more and when it becomes the middle of the night i would go with more howls in january and february. Boundaries should be getting established at that time.

I've used the hurt pup on a p.a. system to bring them from afar then I use a hurt rabbit mouth caller in a low volume to get'um for a shot. Always works for me.

I hunt near morris, mn, and found that the Tally Ho can make a good kitten sound. It seems to work close to farmsites too.
