New round high hopes.

I got this young coyote with my Ruger. The shot was about 35 yards away. I called the yotie up with a hurt pup call from a cd/p.a. system. I used a squeaker for the stop to make a center chest shot. I used a CCI Velocitor for the first time. I have always used the Stinger....but i think i am changing to the Velocitor round. The little dark area low on the neck is where the entry was made.

Nicely Done!!!! Have you ever thought about switching to a .22 mag? I know when my grandpa was little that he himseld when needed meat always harvested the deer with a .22 mag. He said it was always a one shot one kill with a .22 mag.

No I haven't, I have used a .223 and a 17HMR. But due to my urban surroundings. Well you can guess what a stir a large caliber can make. I had to down size my caliber. Since I’ve been using the .22 LR it has reduced the collateral “awareness” of the coyote being removed. The round for the most part will stay in the yotie preventing a possible mustang (loose) bullet. That’s my biggest concern. Using the .22LR within its limitations has worked well so far.

I dont know if you have answered this question before or not, but i will just ask again. Where is your shot placement on these coyotes? Im just curious more than anything. I think what you do is very interesting in the fact that your tactics are far different from the rest of us

That is probably the most important aspect of my hunting. What type of shot do I take? I’ll tell you what goes on to make a single shot in my urban environment. Foremost is public view, if a spectator is around no shot is made. Even if there is a chance of a civilian watching no shot is taken. If the report from the gun may alarm someone I will try another time.

If the coyote is in a position where the round may deflect or exit with a possible collateral hit somewhere other than the ground, meaning my distance to target. No shot is made.

Placement of the shot on the coyote is critical to the above mentioned. With all that in mind I will try to take a front shot to the chest area, I have found this keeps the round in the main body. I have and will take a side shot. I usually aim for just above the shoulder/lower neck area. If I can’t take one or the other I leave it alone.

I can’t tell you how many yoties I have scoped and had to leave the shot for another time.

Have you ever thought about going with a suppressor for urban areas? This will basically eliminate any sound signature on a 22LR. Also why not try a much more fragmenting round for your 22LR. CCI has just introduced a subsonic segmented HP round that splits into 3 pieces for more wound channeling. It's worth a shot considering you in urban surroundings where people, homes and deflections are a big issue.

I will check into the new CCI round 4 sure. I'm always looking for improvement. I do have a suppressor I use sometimes. But I have taken it off...seems like the CCI report I get has not caused any undo alarm (so far). I have used some of the sub-sonic rounds out there...they work ok. The CCI Stinger just puts um down right there.
I just removed a fox from the entrance to one of our condo's right in the front parking lot...not my favorite of locations. But the CCI in the head was just the ticket. The fox didn't move a muscle.

Here is where I had first read about them. The next time i get to town, i'm going to buy a box of LR and Mag, just to see how they work. You don't have any problems with the stingers for over penetration. I know you've got safety zones, but the stingers have a pretty high velocity and all it takes is one bone to let one go. You've got more balls than I have! I stay away from the city people as much as i can, they breath law suit.

If i can get my hands on some i'll let you know, I guess they are kind of hard to get just yet. Don't get your hopes up, I won't be using them on coyotes. Well let me take that back, i'll probably put a few through my pistol on trapped coyotes in the spring just to see what kind of damage they do. I feel safer about shooting a coyote when they can't go anywhere, It would make my job harder if they were to get away.

but first things first, getting my hands on them, I just called Cabella's and Scheels and neither of them had it so, i'll be waiting a while.

xdeano what kind of 22 mag do you have? I bought a Marlin Bolt Action 925M last year when Home of Economy clearanced all of their guns after that robbery. I think I got it for 25% off or something. 22 mags seem hard to find around here. It seems there were alot more 17 HMRs around. At the time it was the only one in GF at Scheels, HOE, and Cabelas. I haven't shot it a whole lot...killed a few squirrels and a skunk with it. But I hope to put it to more use soon. What do you use yours for?
