coyote hunting forever
hello im new to this site and just wanted to introduce myself. i am coyote cracker and my father is coyote wacker. we have been hunting coyotes for about 3 years now and have fairly good success. most of our hunting is in knox co. illinois, and northwest indiana. we are also members of the fox pro forums and the indiana predator central club.. when we cant hunt deer we hunt coyotes.. has anyone out there made a coyote decoy from a real coyote?? any suggestions?? will it be heavy?? can a taxidermist make it more durable than a standard mount?? my father and i will do whatever it takes to call in dogs.. when we hunt together we mainly use his fox pro with some hand calling, and when im by myself its strictly hand calling as i cannot afford an e caller at this time.. we have not hunted using a coyote decoy yet but have read it can be very helpful in feb and march...is there an event that the members from this forum get together to hunt dogs?? if so my dad and i would be interested... good luck hunting.. coyote cracker

Mounted coyote won't be durable enough to last very long and if you have a taxidermist do it the check book is going to hurt. There is a few decoys on the market now to try or get a good dog

Re: coyote hunting forever
I made one last year that was fairly cheap. I had a tanned coyote hide that was tanned laying around an got a wild hair one day. I used a big can of house foam and proceeded to fill it up with the foam. It filled up nicely and is flexible enough to bend an not break. The legs I stiffened with #9 snare wire and can position it how I want it. I got some eyes from a taxidermist and glued them in. I had plans on using it this year until I got reports of several people taking pot shots at coyotes from afar. The tail also has wire in it to show mood swings the coyote may have. Be careful using decoy's. Just because you are on private land has no bearing on safety.
