Hey cb I agree it sounds stupid to trap a coyote and release it, but I am talking about a handful of coyotes, three, five, ten whatever in strategic areas to maybe get rid of an extra twenty-thirty that wouldn't have been targeted and help a lucky varmit hunter afford that new set of tires, scope whatever.
Also don't mean we should leave coyote hunting to the (proffesionals) just that the state hunter /trappers are needed also and this way bounty money could be directed more to them. Heck they would probably be the ones cashing in on the tags anyway. Oh well I am sure they need to eat to.
Either way I just thought it might do as much good as a bounty ( which I don't think is alot) without costing nearly as much.

If the county hires one or two more part time trappers or a whole group that 10,000 is going to go pretty quick.
The trapper will have to be furnished a truck and equipement to start and there is no guarantee they are going to fix the problem and reduce the numbers enough to be effective... Not sure about wyoming but some states require the trapper to have permission to trap or fly other ranches that are not in the program and not all ranches are going to give that permission... I thought Wyoming was just Federal trappers (wildlife services)and did'nt they just get a few million dollars...

As for the post about issueing or putting tags on some of the coyotes with each tag worth so much was done awhile back in S.D.. A coyotes from different parts of the state includeing foxes where trapped and tagged and then released. It maynot of helped reduce the numbers but it did get more hunters out in the field after them when the fur prices took a big drop.. I don't think they do it any longer though...

No Tim it's not all fed trappers. We still have some county guys on contracts. There is damn sure not a better solution than more air time or another trapper. This is not an issue of population control. It's DAMAGE CONTROL!!!!!! A trapper for trouble calls. That $10000 isn't the complete budget. That is whats set aside for the bounty. There is only 1 ranch in my area that won't allow these guys in to work. Theyn still allow them to den and fly though. Where do you get this million dollar thing? Tim, if you want to find out how these boards and trappers are funded call me and I'll explain it to you. I don't feel like sharing that info over the internet for evewryone to see.
