Got a question about Montana coyote hunting

Post by Jerry Hunsley »

Me and a good friend are planning a coyote calling hunt in Montana. We are sorta looking in the Circle , to Brussett area. What do you think. Would that be a good area to go to? Never been hunting there so don't know much about it other than the discussion on this board. Sounds like lots of snowmobilers chasing them. I primarily will be hunting Blm lands although I have a place near Brusset to hunt. Can you point me in a general area. I don't expect you guys to tell me your honey holes. Any information would be appreciated. We are just a couple of "ole farts" as Randy rhoede would say, out looking for a good time.

Randy, I had planned on going next week, but Pat wants to pheasant hunt. I have set it back to the first part of Dec. now. I'm not sure I will like the cold and snow but I don't want to be out there during deer season either. A guy told me it is a zoo out there at that time.

Levi, I wouldn't dream of taking Randy with me. He's too much of a go getter for me. I'm taking an ole Vietnam vet with me.

Hey Jerry I live in Glendive and do a fair amount of coyote hunting in that area. The first part of December should be a great time for you around that area. There are a lot of coyotes south of Circle and a lot of land owners will let you on to hunt them around there. I would recomend that divide between Circle and Lindsay. Hopefully the Snowmobilers wont be out and about by then. They can sure ruin a good time in a hurry.
Another good aera to try is between Circle and Richey threre are a lot of them running around that area to.
Good luck and have fun.

I would be a little hesitant to head towards richey in the beginning of december. They have what they call a "coyote round up" usually the first or second weekend of december every year. So if you like to see them run and gunned, jump in and join the crowd. Thats why i mentioned the area i did to you jerry in my pm where to head. A lot of dogs and alot of beautifiul calling country :D

 Yep I forgot about that. I would maybe scratch that one. Any other time I would say to head that way and you should be good to go. Thanks for reminding me Lyonch. :D

Jerry, tell Pat he can shoot a pheasant, hit one with his car, catch one, take pictures of, any dam time out here. There everywhere!!! Head out early and get the cream of the crop!!

Hey when you go out to work today, Tell that Jesse I got another beaver down below. I got one right away thought it was only a single and breached the dam. Came back and it was repaired so i set it again, got another huge beaver yesterday. 99% sure that is all of them, breached it again and will check it in a couple days. Tried to leave a message but couldn't find a place to leave one in all that phone system out there??

Well off to check some BMP traps for badgers.

Likewise for the Baker area around the first of the year.

Coyote "roundups" are like a damn five ring circus! (and usually dont result in a whole lot of dead pooches)
