Using A Wheelchair Blind For Calling Success - Coyote Pics

I have been trying to get out and do some coyote calling, but I had to many excuses with the snow and then the spring rains or else it was the wind. Finally last evening, I went north of Pierre to see if I could call up some coyotes. I have a genetic muscular disorder that has required the use of a wheelchair for my mobility since 2000. The following pics show an Ameristep chair blind that we modified for use with my electric wheelchair.

   

I selected an area north of Pierre that is closed to hunting, but I was using my camera. I had to go cross country with my electric wheelchair for about 1/4 mile was quite the challenge and chore. The area had a bottom land that was covered with trees and the upland grassy area had a few sparse trees that gave me a shady area for a call near sundown.

I howled with my Dakota Coyote Howler and waited my 2-3 minutes, but no answers. I howled again waited and then blew the rabbit distress screams with my Dakota Jack bite reed call. After which, coming out of the taller grass about 70 yards away there was a coyote:



And then a second coyote was coming in behind, but I only got pics of the first coyote. As these calling stands go, I should have taken a few pics before I started, but of course I didn't.



I was also using my sitting coyote decoy and this is what the coyote was looking at.



As usual the coyote always has an escape route.



Yes if this would have been an actual hunt with my rifle, there would be one less coyote.

Steve, this is Kyle...I emailed you this last winter, asking you about how make your calls. You sent me one and I called my first fox in using your Dakota Coyote Howler.That's an AWESOME setup you've got and you make great calls! Very nice photos to boot! Nothing holds YOU down

I've got a Dakota Coyote Howler. It really does a good job in the summer. Nice work on the coyotes and great post.

Hey Steve, good to see your on here. You sent me a couple dakota howlers and a bite reed distress and they are great. And for all you guys still struggling with the primos hotdog Steve can modify them to make em very easy to use but I would suggest his dakota howlers, they sound awsome.

I guess I had forgotten about the mosquitoes with my past spring and summer coyote calling. I hate to use any repellents and put any more odors in the air. If I remember with my former days of calling, the mosquitoes weren't so bad with the morning calls, but the evening calls were a totally different story.

With myself currently using the chair blind, at least I could move and swat the mosquitoes. I would much rather watch for a coyote, than the bugs.

Steve if you can handle rideing in a 2 seater ATV give me a holler sometime and I'll take you out calling..

Thanks for your comments. I've ridden double or piggy-back on a 4-wheeler, so your two seater ATV wouldn't be a problem. Since I don't get out in the winter very much any more, I can't take the the cold winter temps like I used to. A November or December hunt would work better for me, perhaps we could find some uneducated pups to work on. I just can't hunt like I used to, sneaking or crawling into the calling stand can't be done any more because of my leg problems. That's were the chair blind for my power WC works better for my calling. I guess we will have to see what the fall months bring for us for some possible calling.
