Question about educating coyotes

Ok, I’ve heard about educating coyotes with using the same calls over and over or your presence in an area all the time and even as far as using the same decoy can tip coyotes off to not come in. Well, as some of you have read in my post last week in the General Discussion section about my weekend (first weekend of Oct) and calling in a coyote with a fawn distress call and he spotted me in my treestand. I have no been back to that area since the first weekend of Oct and to my knowledge, no one that I hunt with has been in the area either. Im going to be back in those woods Sunday. Based on that one episode of him spotting me, do you think that if he is still in the area, he would remember me if I tried to call him in again and stay away???? I don’t want to further educate him and run him out of the area. But at the same time, I cant help but wanting to hunt him and take him down. I have my song dog and a couple different distress calls (different tones) I can use instead of the fawn distress call if need be, would it be better to change calls too?

IMO where there is one coyote there is two or three or four maybe. I would say call him in with what you did last time, if nothing switch it up and try a different call Last winter me and Tyrant were caliing an area, and he seen one milling with some pheasants. I tried two differnt rabbit ditress calls nothing, then he howled, that damn thing jumped up and came half way in, then hung up. When it was all done and said I think we used 7 differnet calls in about 45 minutes to get him @ 250 yards, and then dead
The guys here taught me, "call shy coyotes", is a bad word. I say give him a try, what you got to lose Besides how long have been hunting this area, and how many have you seen before? How many have you heard howling at night? There is alot more coyotes out there than you think, most of the time But I'm no expert by any means, all I know is that I ain't going to call in a yote from this computer, so I better get after it

Get out there and get after him! Yeah you might screw up again, but it is a learning experience none the less. if you can pick out a coyote and devote yourself to that one dog and get it killed my hats off to you. That is not an easy task to target a specific coyote and only that coyote and get it killed.

Im not trying to target just him, I want them all. I just say "him" because I know he is in the area based on the events that transpired the first weekend of this month. Being that its in the woods, I can move around and not limit myself to one spot. Just wasnt sure if calling in the same spot and/or with the same call might "educate" him to my presence. Maybe Im overthinking it. but like Optimax said, not going to call a coyote from the computer. So Im going to go at it this weekend and hopefully i can bring him in or another one. But one thing is for sure, I dont expect for him to come charging in like two weeks ago.

I think that some coyotes are smarter than others. I had one coyote that back doored me a few times, caught my scent and left. I went back one day and set a Johnny Stewart 512 down where I normally would park my butt. The minute or so of silence I had recorded on that tape, gave me the time to walk up to the ridge top where that coyote had been coming to check the scent stream before final approach. I parked my butt there and shotgunned the bugger.

I have been changing my set ups to call cross winds alot more too, and having better success. At least if they do come down wind its not at your back, where you can't see them.

All this snow is driving me nuts, got to work to make the truck payment, to go coyotre hunting I guess, so maybe another day

The more open terrain you keep the down wind side, I feel the better your odds of catching a yote trying to make you.

I hear ya Iyonch. I use an electronic call with remote control when calling that area now. Sitting cross-wind of the speaker helps me kill more of the coyotes that I call.

One thing I always do if I'm in an area were I know there's a dog is sneak in and then sit quietly for a good 10 or 15 minutes. It's tough to do because you want to get after em but if you let the area calm down after you walk in and get set up the less cautious the coyote will be about sounds. Changing the whole setup helps alot as well. Different time of day,wind direction, place you sit, call sequence, anything that doesn't remind him of the last encounter. Good luck!!!
