Personally i am not a fan of circles!! I just doesn't make sense to me that when a coyote comes in and he is at 300 yards, that you are trying to center him in a circle instead of holding a precision cross hair on some tiny feature that you are trying to hit on the body. I think it is just a big knock off from the muzzleloading indsutry

thats exactally my way of thinking.. a quality 3x9 scope with standard xhairs is all a hunter needs on shots under 400 yards.

Personally I dont like Nikon, Chris and i both had bad scopes from nikon

I agree.

How the hell do you sight it in and bear down on a target real hard with no center crosshair at all. IMHO they should at least put a fine crosshair in the main circle.

thanks for the input, i heard about them and i thought that they had a regular style bdc reticle, only set up for predator hunting rounds. there is no center cross hair????????????

I'm trying to come up with a good scope to put on the 243 i found, i was kinda thinking about the coyote special, now i dont know. The .243 i found is a Remington 700adl matte barrel/reciever w/ no sights on the barrell, and a composite monte carlo stock wo/bottom metal, with the X-mark pro trigger. I figured that this would be a good starting point, now all i gotta do is find a good scope.

The circles in the coyote scope are not that big of a deal to aim with. Youre eye if in good working condition will find the center in the circles automaticly. The cicrle reticle maynot be the best for punching paper but i do know a few BR guys that have used simular for score shooting or they just use a dot.. The cicrle reticle works the same as a peep site but with out the front bead.. Our milatary has used the peep site for a long time, with it its easey to pick up the target and shoot weather it standing still or running.. It may not be for everyone but i know when i have some extra cash i will have at least one of these scopes with with the rangeing circle reticle.. I also think there are some sites simular that are used on Bows..

I looked through one at the V.H. jamboree and compared with a few other brands they had on the table.The one i looked through the glass was pretty good and the camo finish was nice..
I also got a catalog from Nikon but have had a chance to go through it but i think the coyote scope is in the 500.00 range so it maybe one of there better scopes..
I think Jeff R has one he uses for hunting and some of the guys that competed in the Mr. coyote contest did well hitting the targets with them at different ranges. That is one reason why i would like to try one...

Let me set the record straight. I shoot a Leupold 4.5x14x40 with the Varmint Hunter reticle. However, I have sighted in a few rifles with this scope. As said prior it is tough to sight in on paper, but well worth the effort in my opinion. Would I buy one and use it??? Yup... but I like what I have right now...

It is a good piece of glass and will work well for coyote hunting. My cousin would sell his newly transplanted kidney before giving his up. Nikon has some good stuff and they are priced well. I wouldn't be afraid to stick any of their products in my hunting rig.

Sorry about that Jeff. I remember when we were on stand and we had those three coyotes out in front that you mentioned you had a BDC reticle just did'nt recall what scope it was..

My buddy just got one, Its a 4.5 -14- 40 Buckmaster with all the "bells and whistles" $349.99 all day long. The only problem I see, is if you don't shoot it enough, and have a poor memory you can get confused on the yardage marks ( each circle and and bottom of the circle representing a yardage) He shoot well with it, but he will have issuse with the yardage It also has a light filter on the end for anti-reflection, honeycomb looking thing

They are setup for a 22-250 meaning other calibers your going to have to figure then out! Not much of a nikon fan but each to his own. If you ahve a different caliber a mil dot is tough to beat and then add target turrets and IMO you ahve the best of both worlds. If you want a good scope then look at the Bushnell Elite 3200 in 5-15 with target turrets and mil dot retical for 350.00 or so. I have one on my .243 and it bounces around all day just about every day and holds zero and great adjustment. The reason I bought this one? Very high praises on longrange hunter .com awhile back, for the money he stated it was worth way more than the price tag and I have found out it true! Clear and a mil dot will work for any caliber bullet combination and with a good bal program the mil dot hold over is easy to figure out or by a mil dot master it is a military tool slide rule that works great as well.
