2009 ND Mountain Lion season.
Bismarck, N.D. (AP) North Dakota is reporting the first mountain lion killed since the state season for hunting the animals opened this fall.
State Wildlife Division Chief Randy Kreil says hunter Larry Schultz of Arnegard killed a 95-pound female cat in northwestern North Dakota, east of Watford City The state's fifth mountain lion season started Sept. 4. It runs through March, but could end earlier in the western part of the state if the quota of eight cougars is reached. The eastern part of the state has no quota.

I never knew the lion season started that early
I wonder how fast the quota will fill this season?? I think Rick Mitleider (sp), who bought the coyotes on the round from the 7th NDCC, called a lion in last season and got it

Re: 2009 ND Mountain Lion season.
I don't know beans abount lions
but I got a couple of land owners in one of the areas where I chase coyotes, that have seen a mountain lion four or five time each!!
The one guy has shoot at him a couple of times since deer hunting last year, he said it was running at what he thought to be 400-500 yards
Don't know how to even start to call a mountian lion in??? I would bet the first step is to find some tracks or sign of the lion and then go from there. The odds of seeing it, or even calling one in, are slim to none. But there is always that chance I guess
Oh ya and lets just say its way east of the western zone

Yep, I know the guy. He was in my brothers wedding. I have hunting antelope with him a few times. Whitetail once years ago as well. He has a fur farm. Mostly fox but does have a bunch of lynx and bobcat. Great guy. I beleive he has a 191 gross typical whitetail hanging on his wall along with a few others that are not quite as big but 160 plus. Loves to hunt and trap coyotes.

Is he still raising fox? I would think that would be a tough racket to make money with the fox prices where they have been for the last 5-10years.

Knowing Larry he knew it was in there. He does a lot of calling for coyotes (another one of those guys that kills a pile of coyotes and know one hears about it) but I would reckon he was there for the tabby.

Yep he still has the fur farm as far as I know. I helped him put up food a couple of years back for the critters that he's raising. He has some really nice fox. Good guy. I bet I know about where he took it too, just a hunch.
One of his buddies actually owns a lion, it's a cool critter. very strong!

Re: 2009 ND Mountain Lion season.
Larry's brother actually has a pet Mt Lion. I was in watford today and the lion was taken SE of watford I won't give specifics but he was by the sound of it trying to help a landowner get it but it presented him with the shot instead. Not sure how many of you know or remember but Larry helped Andy Anderson of Scenic sports in Williston kill a ND Mt. Lion back in 2005. That was a male that weighed 156lbs. For those of you coming to the hunt in Williston if you get a chance stop out at Scenic sports and check it out. He has it life size mounted in there.
