Board attitude/WDM

Post by Dcoy »

What happened recently on a thread I started has me thinking this morning.(a rarity nowadays). One of the great things about this forum has been the absence of BS and what I'll call 'attitude'.That has started to change a bit and I'm taking this opportunity to urge all to think about the issue and try monitor and control their 'attitude'.I certainly include myself cause as most know there are some subjects that rile me up and bring out a 'know it all' attitude that sucks.I intend to try control that or just avoid subjects that bring that out.
Lots of good, helpful info here and I'd hate like hell to lose it.Worth thinking about.

On another, but somewhat related note.I serve on a citizens 'board' here in SoDak that gets to hear and consider and 'advise' on assorted subjects and last nite we dealt with the States new Wildlife Damage Management system. As the experts dealing with that in this State who frequent here know, the system has been just reorganized(largely due to a funding mess)and our control officers now have new duties and responsibilities that include 'control' of all animals/birds that cause depredation. In some areas/regions that won't change much but in others they will have to be experts on many things including deer, turkeys,GEESE,beavers, coyotes, name it.They'll be trappers, hunters,PR guys and a host of things only true qualified experts can handle.I bring this up cause on this site we have the benefit of at least 5 of these guys contributing their knowledge to us.Lets not lose it.AND,if you don't think they are qualified, lets just say that if one is to be hired, there will be 100s,yes 100s of applicants applying many of which have not only 'experience',but degrees in Wildlife Management.I won't bore you with statistics and what they do and accomplish but they really ARE experts that deserve our thanks and respect.

Good post Dcoy please keep us informed on your input of the control specialists in your area.

I think you're right that we have always kept the BS to a minumum on here but there is some things that i think just need saying

Agree 100% Dcoy, the no BS is what is so great about this site. Sometimes one's pride can get in the way of reality.
The men that do this for a living, they are experts, or they wouldn't still be doing it("you're only as good as your last kill"), and we should all be truly grateful they are willing to share the info that they do with us. We all have some "secrets", and we have all bagged predators, but the guys who do it consistently, they are the good ones. The guys that are getting kills when it is tough, those are the guys I'm talking about.
I live where walleye fishing is big and there are alot of guys who think they are pretty good, but for some reason when the fishing gets tougher in late summer, you don't here about how they are doing. But when everybody and their dog is catching fish, they act like they are the next big thing. The saying "anybody can catch fish when everybody's catching fish" fits here and in relation to predator calling, that's what sets these guys apart.
Got off track a little, truly enjoy the site and reading all the info posted, and would be happy/lucky to hunt with any of the above.
Good Hunting

That was a great post decoy!! I think as long as we keep the chest pounding to a minimum and the younger/inexperienced respectful of those who have the qualifications to be called a expert the site will continue to grow. The few gentlemen that post on this site that kill coyote for a living dont have to post if they dont want to. They post out of the kindness of there own heart and try to help out someone who is just starting; or another expert that might be struggling with a certain scenario that he has never faced. Some things do need to be said as brad stated earlier! As long as you can keep it in the back of your mind that every post is strictly someone opinion or observation that they saw, you will succeed a lot more. They are recomendations that you can either read into it and take it for what its worth, or you can leave the post alone. When i started coyote hunting i didn't know what side was up and what was down. I can thank the site and many of the people on this sight for helping me get to where i am even today and i hope the future :D

Some of the posts go off subject and/or get to be a bit argumentative. Some guys mistake reading something in a book as experience. sometimes things just need to be put in a very frank manner in order to weed out the BS. I do not like to sit and listen to misleading info just to spare someones feelings. I expect guys to come here to get info as it pertains to coyotes. I try to keep the tone and content focused on killing more coyotes in the future.
