I personaly never drag a coyote without protecting it, not unless I want a worthless coyote by the time I get back to the truck.
I use a "drag bag".
I make mine out of white nylon material. Pretty heavy duty stuff. Simple design. Make a "sack". Leave one corner unsewn to thread about 8 feet of 550 cord through. Pull the cord through, make a draw loop, this goes over the dogs muzzle. Now when you pull the coyote will go up into the "sack". Drag away. Nice and compact, can fold it up and put in your pocket. The nylon drags as easy as any sled.
I make mine about four 4.5' long and about 18" wide, I can easily get two dogs in it at a time.

Re: Coyote drag
That sounds like a good idea. I put them in a plastic sack when I get them back to pickup and spray a little black flag in the sack. Gets rid of some of the fleas.

Re: Coyote drag
how about this. why not a sled you know one of those kids sleds that is long & narrow made out of plastic if it is not the color you want just paint it. you can also use it to carry your stuff also to each of your stands. add about a ten ft. line to it so you can walk ahead of it and not have it hitting the back of your heels. to hold every thing down you can drill some holes on the lip and use bungee cords. to fasten everything down

Tango,
For me the problems with the sled are noise and bulk.Particularly in hills where it wants to 'get away'from you or where you may be shoeing on into the section for multiple stands. The only time I'd feel it was worth it would be in situations where you have multiple coyotes to drag-unfortunately rare for me.(only twice this year and sometimes not that often)On the other hand, for multiple coyotes in DEEP SNOW,I suspect its the best short of a helicopter.
I've tried a number of things similar to those pictured here over the years and for me it always comes back to the simpler the better.I either use a commercial 'deer drag'(you've likely seen them, really just a rope but with a shoulder harness of webbing strap-it goes over one shoulder or attaches to your pack or belt)or what I'm now using-a nylon strap/rope that is thin but about a half inch wide so that it doesn't 'cut' into your hand.It has a loop on both ends and is about 8 feet long so that 'doubles'work if necessary and you can shorten as needed. Both systems fold up into a two inch glob and fit in any pocket.
Sure like the looks of Terrys system though.Might work on a similar hollow one that could hold candy bars inside.

Re: Coyote drag
get a heavy duty commercial garbage bag, throw the coyote in it, tie the end shut with your drag and you will be amazed how easy it slides over the snow.

Or you can shoot one and tell your buddy to come take a look and make him drag it back to the truckCoyotehunter wrote:get a heavy duty commercial garbage bag, throw the coyote in it, tie the end shut with your drag and you will be amazed how easy it slides over the snow.

Re: Coyote drag
A section of PVC pipe and parachute cord, drill a hole in the middle and give you some length to drag makes life easier. Cheap and easy and you can keep a few in a calling vest or what have you.

Re: Coyote drag
If ya take a piece of one inch heater hose, cut a section that will fit your hand like a suitcase handle. Run a piece of cord thru it with just enough cord to make two loops, one out each end. Wrap front legs above elbow and same with rear and carry. Just like those yote totes or whatever thy callem. Great for dry or muddy ground when keeping it clean is a must and not rubbing off the hair which you won't see til you put it up and notice the guard hairs are gone.
I used to have one of those plastic roll up sleds the boys had, very light, on a sling, had holes punched in the side to lace a cord thru it. You layed a fox or coyote in it, laced it tight and pulled it. Worked great just don't know whatever happened to it and where a guy could get another one?? Rolled up nice and tight, weighed nothing, quiet on your back. I only used it on snow, may slide on grass not sure??
