Well first let me say I'm not being asked to post this, don't own any part of this site, and have never met Coyotehunter or Prairie Ghost.I've also hunted for well over fifty years.Hard hunting-about everything and using every technique-in fact nowadays it's unusual for me not to hunt something, somewhere, every day for about 8 months of the year.(I fish hard 4 months

)And,while new to serious calling,I've hunted predators hard for years and have killed hundreds,so I'm not some newbie awe struck by glitter or BS content.
All this leads to this:Even though it costs a few bucks,I'd pay to read, see and participate in the 'Top Dog'forum here. The info there is solid and priceless. If you're new to any part of this endeavor,I'd join before I'd spend a penny on mags,DVDs,books, whatever. You'd be getting way more bang for your buck IMO.
EVERY time I go there I pick up something that pays off-a tidbit today that prompted this and that I bet will put 2-3 more coyotes in my bag this year.
In fact,I'd join now that I've seen whats there-AND what will soon be there even if I was another ADC guy.
Good hunting!

Well the 'tidbit'payed off quickly.I'd been dieing slowly and painfully.12 sets without popping a cap.Days of frustration.Got up to a gauge reading minus 21 degrees this morning and the frustration almost sent me back to bed with the cold as an excuse.Fortunately I didn't.
First set got in about 1/3 mile(miserable drifted snow-no snowshoes)and then started getting into steaming fresh tracks.Instead of just setting up,I followed the 'tidbit'and pushed on-on about another 1/4 mile.Set up,start calling and here comes 4 fast. All stop by a big clump of grass/dirt in a picked cornfield. They circle it,P on it,and just mill around it-didn't want to come farther.I can't move to range it but figure it at about 225.Bang flop the biggest.Other 3 run about 50 and stop, bang flop the second one.The remaining 2 light out and I hit the call. One stops broadside-a little over 300-then the crap happens.Love my 220 improved but it has the 220 imp problem-the blown out cartridge shoulder will cause a cycling hang up if one isn't careful both loading the magazine(each shell must be slightly farther forward than the underlying one)and/or you get too excited(me at this point today

)and work the bolt too fast.I not only was working it fast, its right handed and I'm shooting left, cycling the bolt over the scope with my left hand.Only way to clear it normally is to unload completely=no triple.Still happy though!!!

At least til 'drag out'time with 2 in deep snow-and you're ancient like me.
Well I survive and head to stand two.One comes fast but I didn't shoot when I should have and it escaped after getting downwind. One of those escapes that show how smart they are and how even a little bit 'off'in your set up location can kill you in hilly country.Went from a 'cinch'to not popping a cap.
Heading to set 3 and spot two walking way off. They don't even see my vehicle. Its a spot I know well(last year when Pilgrim visited for a few days he saw 7 in one bunch there-mating season)and was sure I knew where they were heading.Drifts blocked my normal access so ended up walking farther than planned but almost there when I bump one and it escapes without a decent shot.I decide to set up on the next hill and try call the second one.Just before starting to call I'm looking back toward the road to make sure the one that escaped isn't around and I see a pickup driving by slowly-a mile away at least. Then I see it accelerate and go down a hill, then I hear a true barrage-12-13 shots. Then I see the pickup roaring out of sight, then another 8-9 shots.(find out they both had ARs)Figured worthless but I tried to call anyway but zilch.I head out.I then drive around to see what the pickup was doing and see it out in a wind blown plowed field.By glassing I see 2 guys obviously trailing something.I drive around to the other side=nothing.I drive back and one guy is coming out in the pickup so I wait.Turns out they 'hit'the one, then turned their 'yellow mongrel'lose on the trail and somehow lost them both????LOTS of snow.????I try help about an hour but had to be home at noon so left.Hope they find them.
A great morning!The 'tidbit'?
I forgot-but its in 'Top Dog'.
Good hunting!

Decoy thanks for the kind words that was the basis behind the top dog forum. Lots of guys are buying videos and magazines for their 'entertaiment" value and not getting much knowledge. Me and Coyotehunter wanted to provide a place where you can "learn" how to kill coyotes better. If you have been at this for awhile some things might just help you get a few more depending on your expierence, some of the things might change your whole outlook on coyotes completely. The thing about it is that the topics and articles in the Top Dog forum aren't from a weekend warrior that likes to right stories and get paid for it. They are buy people that do this EVERY DAY.

Well maybe I was wrong.Maybe you can buy just one magazine and get all your answers.

I see the front cover of Outdoor Life says "Coyotes-New Howls That Bring Em Running EVERY Time".
I've got em where I want em now!

If you just wanna go out and hunt coyotes for shits and giggles and really dont care if you get one or not then i say stay out of the Top Dog Forum!! If you wanna learn how to kill a specific coyote in a certain township/area then this is the area for you; period. You wanna learn about more than just one way to go after him and or still get him after he's been educated then jump on board. There is no other site out there that i know that is willing to go the extreme as top dog does to answer a question

I am glad I joined this site, there is so much info. not like any other site I belong to.
I live in South Western Pa. Greene Co. I ran across alot of Coyotes the last few Years, and I have seen more this yr. than ever.
I have hunted since I was 16 and I am 52 now, I started hunting Coyotes for about a month, spotted a few pups out in the middle of the afternoon a few wks. ago. is that normal? , and heard to use a rabbit call in the Am and Pm. is this right?
They wasn't Pups , I called them pups because they where smaller than most the yotes I have been seeing and they where acting young, you know playing around with each other.

You seen pups a few weeks ago? You must have been mistaken there shouldn't be any pups out and about for 4 months.

Here's the $120 description: "Not just a guy with an opinion who shot a coyote once while deer hunting." -- that's smart-ass.
Is this a site for only professional hunters? Is there going to be differnet grades of forums based on who's better? Who decides who is "not JUST a guy with an opinion?" I thought that was the beauty of this site-- guys able to talk on forums and share knowledge for free? Not to be a smartass, Coyotehunter, but $120 isn't worth it just to be in a forum of people who think they're "not JUST" guys with opinions. Because we
all are just guys with opinions--
nobody has THE answer.
