First Set

Laying in my blind in a stubble field this morning surrounded by goose decoys and swearing at the goose gods that were sending the morning flight non-stop past me about a half mile west-unlike the day before. While glassing,I spot a coyote traveling the edge of a bean field a half mile the other way.Thats all the excuse i needed and take off at a jog for my truck and the rifle and E caller in it.Grab the gear and jog towards Mr Yote.Place the call in a pasture between 2 sloughs.Run back 100 yds so my scent is blowing out across one slough.Set up,hit the call with a snowshoe hare distress(no comments please :D )and watch Mr Yote stop, sit down and look my way.2-3 series of a few minutes of the distress and he's(she?)still sitting there.Hit the coyote pup distress and bingo here it comes at a lope.Across the beans to the edge of the slough, into high grass and out of sight. For only about a 100 yds or so I figure-then open pasture-open pasture about 150 yds away.As I'm turning my scope slowly down to 6 power,my phone rings.Loudly.Repeatedly.While I'm frantically trying to unbutton two pockets to get at it.
Nada.Exciting but sure as hell hope thats no indication of how my year will go.
'Distressed'in SoDak. :(

And thats the exact reason, all cellphones stay in the glove box of the truck! That would be luck if I brought the damn phone with!

Terry,
There's more pain in the story. When I realize the coyote is gone,I head for the truck instead of back to the decoys thinking that everything is over for the morning and I might as well pull out. After stowing the coyote gear I get the truck turned around in time to see a flock(19 honkers to be precise) make 2 passes over the decoys before leaving-probably because I left the blind open.At least they didn't land and it wouldn't have been much of a shot since they must have been at least 15-20 yds high when they swung the second time.
Yes,looking forward to meeting you and a bunch of others here at the Classic-should be fun.Sounds like we'll be seeing a lot of you in particular.Since we don't have a clue where to hunt or how to do it,my buddy has planted a GPS device on your truck.See ya around!

I hate to admit it but I have done that myself. did not have a coyote close enough (that I am aware of) to hear it but I felt like a goof. Digging through all my pockets trying to find the offender.

Ah the old cell phone incident   Its happen to me once and that is one time too many!!! The only hint i can give you guys that have to carry your cell phone is to record yourself on a call making distress sounds and then use that as your ringer or download a ringer from the web and use that

Number one Rule when hunting with me, "keep the damn cell phone in the truck" Nobody is that important to talk to on stand! And if its important they will leave a message!

I witnessed Coyotehunter scrambling through pockets trying to get his shut off

I use to have my ring set at a recording of me on a howler but i'm pretty good about leaving it in the truck.

This is really bad, during a tournament I was on stand and heard Brad take a shot about a mile a way at the other end of the pasture I was working. I had just shot a coyote at the previous stand and called brad at the end of the stand I was on. I wanted to know if he got one and how much time before he would be back to the road. As we were talking I had a coyote come in from my left at about 50 yards. I was sitting, leaning back against a big rock, I dropped the phone and shot the coyote at a trot as he was trying to decide if he should stay or go.
