I'm looking at getting set up to have my shotgun along with for the suprise attack of the starving coyote that can't wait for a fresh rabbit. I am planning on useing my exsisting shotgun I have a super x turkey choke for it, with this work or should I look at getting an actual coyote choke. Also I have no idea what kind of round to shoot. Any advice?

Here is my advice Dusty: I have first hand experience with the turkey choke tubes; they are too tight and screw up you pattern big time (lost a coyote in a tournment because of that). Turkey chokes are designed to shoot shot sizes 4,5,6 lead shot. I suggest either shooting a patternmaster choke tube with some #2 hevishot or my favorite go to dead coyote choke tube with dead coyote shells. Do some mixing and matching with shots and chokes and you might find something that works great for you but those are just the top 2 that i would suggest.

I load for the 10 Gauge and shoot #1 Buck and am very happy with it. I use the Patternmaster also. A rule of thumb that I have found to be true is. The bigger the shot. The bigger the gauge.

I shoot the patternmaster on my 10 guage and have been fairly happy with it shooting T shot

Brad

Do you recommend 10 guage or 12 guage?

If I didn't have the reloading stuff and I shot a truck load of ammo every year I would get a 3 1/2" 12 gauge. I don't get a lot of shot's in a year and when I do I want the best that I can afford. I would rather blame myself and not my equipment.

on stand I use the 3 1/2" 12 ga. Carlson choke tube and 2# Hevi-shot

How far can you take em with the 2 hevi-shot? I would like to order some but the biggest they sell is B's. For a considerable ammount more you could get 00 buck but the price is there also.

I feel confident out to 65 yards. I have shot it all and that is the combo that works best for me.

Levi i like the 10ga for piece of mind but don't think it's neccesarry i've seen coyotes killed plenty with a 12ga as far as i need to kill them before going to the rifle
