5th dog for this Newbie

Hi all,
My buddy called to say he & his neighbors have lost 6-7 cats and a dog this past month and would I be interested in hunting coyotes there. Boy would I! He didn't have to ask my twice!

I moved into the orchard before light and set out my remote speaker and decoy (fake fur propped up with sticks) 50 feet out in front of me. Pup distress and some howls thrown in and two hours later a coyote comes in behind me moving from my left to my right. It's only 40-50 feet away! It glances at me a couple of times but keeps moving past. I reach down and press the howl button and she freezes (now I can see it's a female). She makes a 90 degree left turn and goes right toward my decoy. She stops short quartering to me, looks at me, looks at the decoy, and I pull the trigger! Exciting! She was only 40 feet away.
At the top of the pic just left of center you can see the shotgun wad.
Great forum!
Ron

Thanks everyone!
Heard some howling and pups carrying on a half hour before so I chimed in and hunkered down.
There's no hunting pressure there and figured some coyote is going to come over and check me out.

There should be a dog running around that is getting lonely get back out there and do it again you should have good luck in cleaning him up and the juveniles will be easy after that.

Prairie Ghost, thanks for the tip!
I'll be back out there tomorrow morning for her mate. I've learned this pair has a bad habit of crossing an open field mid-morning. In this field last weekend, I couldn't get a safe shot on him (houses in the area), had to let him go. And about the juveniles, I have located the den. I'm going to clean house :)

Nice coyote and great picture. What shotgun load were you using and how many yards?

Thanks Coyotewhacker,
I used 3.5" #4's and she was about 40 feet away, quartering to me.
