WY trapping trip

Prairie Ghost, I am planning on a trapping trip if I can swing it. I haven't gone for 5 yrs now, after 10 yrs in a row. I have a place to stay in Gillette, but am thinking of an area maybe 3hrs away from there. I thought maybe 2 hrs or more from a town would have fewer trappers. I used to be on all private ground, but may have to do all fed ground, unless I find some private ground. Any helpful info would be great! Thanks

Footholds or Snares? Cats or Coyotes?

Mostly footholds for coyotes, use snares where I think they will work. I am planning on a fur license, to keep a cat or two, if I catch some. I used to come out for 3 weeks, hoping on at least 2 weeks. I forgot, are you in Converse co?

My friend said I could stay at his house, he has trapped n of town in grassland. I thought it might be good somewhere west of Casper. I have trapped in Converse, Campbell, Johnson, Sheridan, Bighorn, and Carbon counties. Carbon had a good population 5-6 yrs ago. I prefer private land, but am thinking blm might be my only choice this time.

Just curious where you all are located? How did your WY trapping trip go? Where did you end up going?
I see where you have trapped Johnson and Sheridan counties in the past...I wouldn't suggest hitting those counties up anytime soon though. Did you have any luck in the past? I'd be surprised if you did with the competition from the county trappers. They do an excellent job out here. Well, technically I can only speak for two of those four trappers. I don't know the two in southern Johnson County.
Wyoming seems to be a good place for trapping though

My husband has been doing it as often as he can ever since he was able and has had some excellent teachers to help him along the way. I've been enjoying it ever since we've known eachother as well.
I hope your trip was a good one!
If my husband ever finds this site I'll never get him off of it...that's for sure! lol
I've enjoyed reading up on some of the topics on here, you guys seem like a good bunch

Hey Tac - You never got back to me on this...just curious cuz I thought I read somewhere that when you were out here in WY that you were trapping in the grasslands north of Gillette? Is that right? You said you didn't have any luck as well? Is that right? Well I just thought I'd let you know that you must be full of it because my husband is trapping literally right next to the grasslands up there and has caught/shot 39 coyotes and 7 or so bobcats off of that one ranch and there is more to be caught/shot. He's had 59 coyotes and 10 bobcats so far this fur season (only snaring part time I might add) and most of them have been caught in that exact same area. You must have been there at a bad time or you did a poor job by the sounds of it...weather isn't always the only reason for our misfortunes.
Sorry for the honesty...I just felt it needed to be said.
Well anyways...better luck back in Iowa where there are plenty of coyotes for you to trap/shoot back there. You are from Iowa right?
