Even though the temperatures are ridiculously high , Marty And I made a couple stands while out scouting for the upcoming Minot tourney.. The first stand was a blank, even though we did see 4 coyotes, none were interested in the distance.. The second stand was a different story.

Marty and I spotted at a promising pasture and decided to walk in and call it, the wind was not perfect, but we didnt think the coyotes would come from the direction it was blowing anyways ... Ya right, they always come from that direction!. I set the foxpro down on a large rock and flipped out my bi-pod to get into my prone position. Marty was sitting next to me. I hit the rabbit distress and IMMEDIATELY 2 coyotes bolt out of a small cattail patch 400 yards away, coming right for us! The wind is blowing their direction so Marty whispers to me to take the first shot they give us.. The coyotes run out of sight into a small depression in the ground. I decided to take this opportunity to crawl five feet ahead for a better shot opportunity when they crested the rise. As I slid forward I felt myself "slide" through something... hmmmm? More on this in a second. The male coyote tops the ridge and freezes, Marty quickly centers his crosshairs and... CLICK! .. He forgot to chamber one! I adjust my gun quickly to the coyote on martys side and take the shot! Actually we both shot, The coyote took two chunks of lead to the chest, he went straight down.. The female never did give us a shot and was able to escape unharmed ..

After everything settled down I realized a strong odor coming from myself. I looked down and realized As I had been crawling forward I had slid through a boone and crocket cow pie.. I had it from my chest down to my knees. . Hey... Atleast we got the coyote..


This was a very very large Male.

Thats a biggun way to go boys.

Mitch how is the fur coming along? It seems as though you will be skinning those big males in a week or two

Ya its not going to be long on the fur, this coyote looked very good.. By october 7th I would say ill be skinning..

.. Ya money!.. We picked off another last night at dark.. Luckily no cow pies were featured in the killing of the coyote.
