Hey there coyote hunters! I just joined, I think, I am still waiting for 2nd email.
I am from nw IA, been hunting and trapping predators for 35-37 yrs. Took 10 trapping trips to WY and MT, acually one trip I trapped in MT. I made 3 trips to WY in the summer-spring to kill coyotes for a rancher out there. I shoot a Tactical.20 which is a .223 bumped down a hair and necked to a .204.
I enjoy calling in WY, trapping is a little better there also. I haven't been to WY for 5 yrs due to going from 2 incomes down to one, then the latest economic down turn, has slowed my trapping and hunting in a big way. I am currently applying for a good job in WY, I can't trap or hunt much without a good job!! Benefits would be nice, too!
I used to trap on 20-30 farms in my area. Last yr I trapped on 4 farms, 2 for 2 weeks and then a week or so on 2 more, taking 19 coyotes, 4 were unsellable. Things sure are different now.
Waiting for the phone call in WY, or a nice blanket of snow if they don't call!

glad to have you. we always like to see trappers come on the site. put some pics up if you get a chance. love to see those coytes bounce in a trap.

I have hundreds of 35mm catch pictures, and a few digital, I'll try to remember how to photbucket some when I get a few moments or an hour or so All of them that are on file are on my old computer, just got a new one. I seem to never take any after being shot, something I might want to do, since this other site seems to require it to be believable, Be back soon!

Tac, i don't trap anymore but am still interested in staying in touch with it. what kind of traps do you use for coyotes??

I also am new to this forum, I have been reading many posts and gleaning info ,and humor from many of them. I just started coyote hunting again after about a 20 year hiatus I currently own a remington model 700 in .204 ruger. I live in southern Illinois , the last time I did any serious coyote hunting I was a marine stationed at lowry afb. in denver co.

bucksnbears, I use modified #3 Bridgers and snares, snares are a great tool for predators.
Mitch, I can't remember as good as I would like! I need more clues, too much stress and ect last few yrs!

New guy also. Just joined today. I've got a 12 year old son that has gotten coyote fever. He killed his first coyote last week all by himself. We are rookies...we just got the fever a month or so ago. Boy do I need some help. We live in Florida, so shooting distances will be inside a 100 yds most of the time. He has got a Rem Model Seven in .243 now that he uses for deer. I am getting him a Rem Model Seven Predator (Brush Camo) in .223 (1-9 twist) with a Nikon Coyote Special 4.5-14x40 in matching Brush Camo.

We are both avid deer and turkey hunters but I really think we are going to enjoy this...alot like turkey hunting, except they've got fur!!!

I know where alot of coyotes are...we have deer and turkey hunted on our family farm, so through the last 40 years I've seen and heard lots of 'dogs. I haven't even bought a howler yet (much less know how to use it). We have bought a couple of Primos calls and I have been practicing with them for 2 or 3 weeks.

The coyotes are very vocal here from dusk to dawn. There is an old farm house that is overgrown right across the road from our farm house. The coyotes start howling around that house right at dark everyday and are usually there right before daylight every morning. My 12 year old walked across the road last weekend and killed a 40 lb female...is (our) first kill.

The timber in our area of Florida is so thick that you can hardley see over 20-30 yards. We have been sticking to calling around the edges of fields.
