We made a few calls no results we got time for one more we set up start calling see 7 dogs and none come we we one dog going to try and cross the rode we head back to the truck and run up where he crossed just then he drops out of site we are sitting there waiting for him to come out of the valley and he does I yell at him he truns and looks back I put my dueplux cross hairs on his back and pull the trigger and down he goes Mitch and I just start laughing he looks at me and said now thats are birthday presents from Luke. When Mitch picked up the coyote I ranged it at 482. I forgot the camera again so no pic. sorry

Marty have you noticed with the more snow, that the coyotes are holding up more?

Thats exactly what we noticed as well this past weekend. Open fields, or grass, were the snow is holding, the coyotes are having a tougher time running through it. The snow is still really soft were we were hunting.

Good Post. I like to hear about the .17 being able to do that. I have one but have never used it on coyotes but I really want the wife to have a gun while she is sitting there on stand to and my .17 is a semi auto so she should be able to get quick shots off. I am starting to think it might be a ok gun for her to use until I know if she is going to like coyote hunting and buy her a little bigger one. (Of course with alteirier motives)

Ya I was talking about the .17 hmr. I didnt pay attention to your post good enough and see the .17rem. My bad.

Back to my believeing that the .17 hmr is to small for coyotes. But
Look out Prairie Dogs...

We normaly walk that far here before the hunt even starts..
Not uncommon to cover 4-8 miles in a day here...
