Good Sunday Hunt!!

We started the day at sunrise on a ridge over looking a huge valley flat, three minutes into the set, I got one coming up the valley and she stopped at about 150yrds I told my buddy Brad to take her when ever he wanted. I lip squeeked a couple of time and she came about another 20yards, Brad couldn't take it, Bang flop
He killed it with his new Cooper .22-250 Ackley Improved, 40gr. fire form loads. A female adult with good fur, no pelt damage.
Next two stands were a bust, we did have one howl at us from a mile out? not sure if we bumped it on the way in or what the skinny? He did wait tell we were done with the stand to start howling at us? I howled back a few times but no takers.
Next stand we bumped one on the walk in. We just left the truck and he bolted out of there. We continued to walk into the stand, the next hill crest produced another bumped coyote. We hit the dirt and I started to call him, he was about 500yrds out. He slowed down for a bit, and BANG
from my right brad shoots, I thought what the hell are you doing???? Turns out as soon as I started to call another one sat up from a nap at about 125yrds. Bang flop, agian the Cooper strikes
The first coyote kicked it in, so I hit the Ki-Ki but he kept going for a bit. He did stop and lay down on a black dirt dougout. I tried to call a little, but he was not moving. We had another sneek in the back door and grab the lunch while we were occupied with the far one. Buy the time we seen him he had already been in and winded us, and was out of there
We got out of there with one, but we'll go back and get the rest another day.
This coyote was a big male, must go 34+lbs also good fur with little pelt damage.
Next stand produced a coyote about a 1.5 mile plus out there. He didnt move from his perch, walked around a bit a layed back down. We were able to glass the country around him, come up with a plan, and backed out. Drove around the area and came in from the other direction, a mile walk down the trail and a good set up. I started to call and there was nothing, 8-10 minutes in to the stand a couple of deer bolt out of the valley between us and where that coyote was. A couple minute later, two coyotes show up on the ridge about 700yrds out. They could hear us, and could care less
I gave them a greeting howl, and they came in on a run. Down the ridge and into the CRP feild. It took forever for them to show up at the fence. They came out in to the stubble feild we were in (we sat in a patch of tall crp garss about 40yrds across) and started to work down wind, with Brad on the down wind side I told him to fire when ready. At about 150yrds BANG flop dead coyote, my shot was right behind his on the second coyote, but I didn't conect with mine. The race was on but that there coyote will have to come home another day
This coyote was a smaller male, maybe a pup?
All in all a good sunday hunt, after two weeks of deer season. And Just getting my gun back from the gunsmith. Not hunting coyotes for three weeks, its good to be back out chasing them
