Anyone ever hunt the Slayton/Currie area in SW Minnesota for coyotes? friend and I are planning on giving it our first try in the area later this winter after deer season is done.

I have hunted and done a little calling in the Slayton area. You have pick-up cowboys that hunt around Currie to the east and maybe another group south of Currie...Last time in that area there where still a few coyotes and fox left.. Good luck..

I have some lands I can hunt right around the dam area and north of there, a bit off the roads, so hopefully we can get a little action and see if we like it.

The higher numbers willbe south of 30. There will be a few coyotes hanging around the heavey cover along creeks and such but at this time of year the bulk of them willbe on higher ground..

what is it that they migrate to in the winter, particularly south of 30? is it cover or prey or both?

Right now deer season and pheasant season is going on. Where do you think they are doing most of the hunting??? If some of the coyotes are not pressured too much they will stay in the thick stuff. The ones getting bumped the most will move out to higher ground such as fence lines and rock piles away from any cover where most of the food is, they will come back in at nite to feed but will spend the days on high ground.. Right around mateing season or towards the end of it they will move back in to the thick stuff..
There is more cover south of #30 and some big sections and for some reason the coyotes like that area better.. The more north you go it tends to open up and coyotes are easier to spot so its easey pickens..

gotcha. well then one good thing is, some of the land i can hunt butts right up to Shetek state park, so hopefully that will hold some of them and we can draw them out. either way, i'm excited for my new 22-250 to get here thursday so i can go shoot it on friday.
