The frustration is mounting while Im out deer hunting and trying to get a coyote while on stand. I will call in the morning right when I can see good enough to shoot and usually right at last light. Im going to have to get on the ball and get my deer so I can focus more on coyotes. Last sunday I was in my treestand overlooking a small food plot and an open field to the east of me. I hadnt seen anything all morning and it was breezy. So at 11 am I decided I was going to get down. Thought about staying til 11:30 but I was just frustrated with the hunt. I lower my bow and my back and let go of my rope and turn around to face the tree and undo my bow and pack hangers and I get ready to start lowering my climber stand and I hear foot steps off to my left near the field. I look over and low and behold here comes a coyote out onto the east perimeter trail of the property about 15-20 yds away. All I could do was stand there motionless. My bow was on the ground and had no way to pick it back up because I dropped the rope too! The coyote worked along the trail heading north and it bends right infront of where I was sitting and the coytoe stopped and dropped a duce and turned and headed west thru the little food plot I was hunting over and into the woods. Never knew I was there. He was no closer than 15 yds and was broadside or quartering away from me 3 times and barley moving, could have easily drawn on him and got a shot off. Just frustrating that when I do call one in Im not ready or when one comes in (I wasnt even calling) I have no weapon in hand. Not sure why he came by but its nice to know they are there. The coytoe had no mange and had a nice looking coat, mostly gray and white with a good patch of brownish-red on the top of its back.
When someon gets that frusterated and bothered by coyotes and finally get one, the reward is just that much better It is possible that he was just out checking the area out. Location is key when hunting coyotes. You know they are there so get in there get after them
