Hey fellas,

Well, I kicked of my season today and it started out right. My latest Randy Anderson video showed up today and there was almost no wind so I couldnt help myself and got all jacked up and went to the range to shoot some with my new Savage 22-250. It shot really well and I brought my calls and camo and made one stand at last light. I am sitting in a fenceliine, looking across a cow pasture and on the other side of that is a corn field about 1/2 mile across and then its a huge woods and there are always coyotes around and I had killed one here a few years ago.

Started of with a pup howl a couple times and waited and some coyotes lit up in a bit. After about 5 mins a gave some pup distess sounds and waited about 5-7 minutes. Nothing. Tried the ol' Foxpro which promptly failed to work other than making a strange humming noise so enough with that and switched to Ol' Reliable, the Tally Ho. One series on that and 5 mins later I am about to get lucky I hope(If the "KIng of what can go wrong" can shoot straight). The suns at my back and the wind is North to South and I am looking East and just about dark and shooting light fading fast, I see a white spot about the size of a paper plate. Boy, that sun just beamed of the face and white neck of a coyote. At 10,000 yards or 175(I forget which ) the 55 grain Vmax hammers him in the right front shoulder and my first of the year is down.

Generally, coyote hunting is always on my mind but tonight really lit it up I guess so game on I say. I know its not a big deal to guys that do it for a living but for a 9-5 desk jockey that lives to hunt coyotes when he can, they are all trophies to me and I just thought I would share this with yall.

Great way to start the season!! Makes you feel good for the first time out.

Me and the wife also went last night, after a slow day of fishing. Got out with limited light left, made two stands, and no takers but did see one working a fenchline 1/2 mile out but he dissapeared??? Well next time I guess.

you need to chime in on the "LR Coyotes" thread shooting them at 10,000yds that was good man keep it up

so what did you end up with, male, female, age (adult, pup). Fur quality can't be there yet, but then again the fur market is in the tank. I'm guessing you're just shooting for fun.

It was a male, this years pup which normally I would not shoot but at 10,000 yards its hard to tell exactly! Anyway, back to reality. I think he was all by himself but I never really gave any others a chance to show up which actually brings me to a question for you fellas.

As soon as he poked his face out I shot him. Afterwards, I got back on the ki yi's and bellered for about 30 seconds or so and then sat for maybe 3-5 minutes then got up ans went and checked him out. Now, this is about 20-30 minutes into the stand. So here are my questions.

1. Do this years pups normally travel alone or should I have lip squeaked him out of the edge of the corn and hoped his parents were behind him? Would they normally have been?

2. After you guys kill one how long do you normally ki-yi and then sit for?

Just go around kicking people in the right shin and if they dont react and at the same time you suffer a broken leg, its me.If they do react and you get beat up in your efforts to identify me, its not my fault. Seriously tho, A two foot blond ponytail will give me away.

definetly would have given it some time and patience this time of the year because often you still have litter mates running together or you might still have the parents around. I"m just starting to see a few pups broken off on their own here.

As far as how long to wait it depends on how well i can see and how long i have been on stand.

Maybe not quite that long but anyway, ever see a picture of Jesus with short hair? Well, its kinda like that only Randy is the Arnold Schwarzeneger character and I am the Danny Davito character in the movie "Twins". That will explain it all.

Well with my program I can go out to 8000Yds, but it kinda drops off at around 3000yds with 24,758.51 inches of drop. Oh and the wind if you have a 10 mph crosswind 2048.3 inches. Now that's good shooting. Congrats!!!

i have two of them already. I like to give them a sporting chance. You know how hard they are to hit when they're 15 feet out, it's like the matrix! Now where's that damn shotgun!
