it's good to be back on line. for me this last 6 months has been crazy, very crazy. but hoping to get back to some normalsy whatever that might be. looking to do some fine tuning this yr. work on my equipment some. like working on my snowshoes, looking to add a bipod to my rifle (270 win), & maybe focus on my manual calling, electronic are not working out for me yet.

Its official, im sick of this snow. Gotta be withing 500 yards or the coyotes just sit there and say screw it walking through this deep, uncrusted crap we have.

Yep, I feel sorry for the poor bastard that comes up to me and tells me how much they like snow! I will snap on their asses!!! It was alot of work to kill coyotes this past weekend. I had a pair of coyotes hard charging me in an open grass field, and at 700 yards out they just stoped, and sat down and moused around and slowly worked their way to the hard field. enough to make me sick!!

Is there any good news about the snow?Yes,there's a crust underneath now and the new drifts are hard-deep if you bust through but generally hard.Secondly, these new Wood Bearpaws are the cats ass for fast,easy,quiet travel on hardpack.First time out and they scored.

this is not really about the snow shoe its self but more less the binders, which if you have good binders it makes the snowshoes more enjoyable, as we all (most) know. i have had some real trouble with my bindings so i looked on ebay & found some what i thought was nice ones, they came in last thursday & wow are they EASY. they are so easy to do that i almost want to wear them to work, but we would need more snow before that happens. they were really reasonable got them out of Maine. if anyone is interested let me know & i will pass on the info. these were made by a fellow hunter, either the wife or husband not sure. concept is simple boy is it ever. just thought that i would let you know.

This past weekend was the first time i have been on snowshoes(as well as my first time coyote hunting). i picked up a set of Alaskan 10x56 shoes, used, for $65. they are a bit worn, but not too badly. they came with some very basic bindings but the bindings did not have a heel strap on them. since i plan on putting some better bindings on them, but just needed to get thru the weekend, i bought two 26" dog collar, cut them and attached to the bindings for heel straps. the modification actually worked quite well and were quick to get on and off. the only issue i had was the snowshoes twisting on my feet.
My buddy that i went hunting with bought a set of Redfeather Stealth shoes. it took a while, but once he got a hang of the bindings, they were about as quick to get in and out of as mine. southern Mn has a hard crush on the snow that my shoes barely made a mark in, but his would constanly break thru, causing quite alot of extra noise. once he figured out to get his weight back farther in the shoe, they were quieter, but mine were still better. he had better traction in inclines/declines as compared to mine "skiing".

one thing about the aluminum kind is they all seem to have that big cleat in the front. i took lots of spills last year because of that. walking on hard pack and if you don'tpick the feet up high enoughand have momentem like i do the cleats would catch the snow and i'd face plant forward. now that the snow is real hard i don't need the long wood ones and have been using my aluminums so i took an angle grinder and ground off the long teeth about 1/2 inch and it really helps. i thing i may get a pair of bear claw type in wood next year. the same size as my alum's just for the noise factor. the wife and i took a good walk on sunday and she had on wood and i had alum. huge difference in the noise

Has anyone used the Atlas snowshoes and if so what do you think of them. I just got my set of Atlas series 10's today from UPS and tried them out a bit in the yard . Really like the bindings on them. Was hoping to make it out this Wed. or Thursday but that aint gonna happen now. Just wondering if anybody else has had any dealings in these shoes. I will let you all know what I think of them after I get to use them a bit.
