I use a Remington 788 (22-250) with a Weaver k6 scope. Nothing fancy but it does the job, along with either my cross-sticks or bipod. 97 ford pickup (2X4) - white so it blends into the snowdrifts. 7X32 binocs and my crit-r-calls. What more can a guy want?

I bet it took balls. It looks like it was worth it, though. Such a trade off-- those stock barrels are pretty shiney...

Here's a pic I took yesterday of my .204Ruger. 700 Remington barreled action- sporter contour. Paid $360 for the gun new in box in July 2008 and sold most of the original parts for approx $100 total. Stock is a Boyd's JRS laminate ($99 + $8 can of crackle paint and poly sealer), bases/rings are Talley one-piece ($30), Shilen trigger ($75), scope is Weaver V16 ($260), Tubb speedlock firing pin/spring ($45). Fully accurized incl Holland pillars added, bed w/ Devcon, lugs and bore hand-lapped, muzzle re-crowned, paint on bolt/barrel/action is DuraCoat ($20 total)... some other tinkering. Anyway, shoots 1/4" MOA (5 shots).

BnB,
Thanks. The intent behind my post had a bit to do with itemizing how much it
doesn't costs to accurize if you do yourself. Getting that rifle 'right' also challenged me some (so seeking validation of sorts

). Also took me a while to finally shoot at something with it, which is now behind me while the coyote in pic is one from Dcoy's double on Fri AM. I did drag it the "second mile" for him. Anyway, hard to go wrong if you start with a good deal on a 700 rifle or action.
Brod_Man, just want to add that it's useful to look at all of the options incl CZ and Savage if you're interested in value and not interested in the fine tuning aspects.
