Here is my honest opinion fo the bounty. I think that it sucks. Not just in the winter, but in the summer also. I believe that the money would be more wisely spent on a summer time contract for a guy to hit specific problems. I myself pay into the program every time I sell a calf, cow or horse. I never like to waste money.
Our program has a cap at $10000. After that is gone the bounties over. That kind of money could even be spent on mre equipment, over-time or even a bonus for the two guys we have.
I willcontinue to kill coyotes in the summer just because it helps me out in the winter and spring of the next year. I have been rallying afew ranchers to try and put a stop to this winter bounty. I am really worried about what could happen.

Good points Dusty, Your 100% right when you say the money could be used on trappers, and equipment. That would be 100% more effective in the long run

Yup.

I would think you would be better off using that money to hire several trappers to come in during critical times like from start of calving through peak denning season. Spend the same amount of money, and probably end up with a lot higher body count.

Its kind of like in Iraq. If you absolutely positively want something (or someone) destroyed, call the Turkish based private security companies. Those Turks are crazy nuts!

we have had a bounty in my county for ever.............I just see it as a waste of money paying guys to kill coyotes in the fall and winter months. spring and early summer............specific complaint calls.........maybe....but for the most part the money could be used in ways that would be more benificial to the over all program. just killing any ol coyote can be about a complete waste of time in most situations. no one wants to hunt the tough summer coyotes when it is 95 deg by 10am.............just my opinion.

I think Campbell co used to stop the bounty when the furs primed up in the fall, to save money cause they will kill them for the fur. One pair of guys took 167 or so into Campbell co. I heard most were shot or trapped in Johnson and Sheridan co, it kinda emptied the money for the bounty that fall. The bounty might be better if all of them gave it, otherwise it could be hard to stop the cheaters.

I would agree with that. I do not think they are that effective in helping in the spring summer months but it would certainly be more benefitial if the bounty was state wide.

I heard a story that Cambell County system before they put a cap on was bankrupt from a guy with an airplane and it took them three years to pay him off. A lot of margin for cheating.

I think Dusty is right, it would be better to spend the money on problem areas, or specifically problem coyotes. When I trapped for Phil, he lost 5% or less, one yr the neighbor lost 15-30% of his lambs. Some of the fed guys are just collecting a check, sometimes. Now it is rare to see one or a track on that ranch, mange and a good control guy.

The meeting didn't go that great. A few people that I had talked into going in didn't show up so our side had a low turn out. We did however manage to shut it down for this winter. It will start in March of 2011 and run until September 30th.
