Mid day coyote

Post by DustyC »

Heres a male I called in a few days ago at 1pm. It was about 95 degrees. Came in really hard. I called and shot his dry mate a day before this one.

Dusty are you sure it was a dry mate?? Many of the females this time of year do not resemble what some might see as a wet bitch. Their bellies are getting furred up with no signs of nursing on some. The only for sure way is to check for fetal scars. Maybe you already did this? I have been fooled a time or two.

Yeah I checked for the scars and although I'm still learning I'm sure she was dry. I have been checking all of the females I've killed just to be sure. I did take a den this morning that I only got 2 pups out of and she showed 4 scars. Sloppy work on my part but the pups were pretty big. I'll go back and try to look for the other 2 pups in the morning. They are weaned but I would still like to clean it up.
No that one wasn't with the new gun. I just got it sighted in yesterday. I did kill the bitch today with it. I'll post pictures and details as soon as I get more yime. All I have to say about the new gun is WOW!!!!!!!!!!!   That thing F'in shoots! The picture is with my 22-250 with 52 gr Berger.

Good work! It can be a real pain cleaning up the pups this time of the year calling can work but equipment is a good option is SOME cases.

Good stuff.Been home a week now dealing with 'issues' and man I'm seeing serious numbers of young coyotes.Good and bad. :D :(
I'm very carefully GPSing em all.Locating is easy-glass freshly hayed fields=near 50-50 chance you'll spot some.Morning, evening or midday.Must really make for easy pickings for them on mice and other tidbits. If I can see to shoot, life is going to get real good, real soon. :D
