Shooting sticks or Bi-pod
I have used both but find in most situations I like the Harris bi-pod that I can open all the way for sitting but still collapse it down to shoot prone. I got tired of trying to get shooting sticks out of the snow when I had to move the gun for a shot.

I like bi-bods much better the main reason is moving you gun for a shot with the bi-pod can be a one hand operation if need be and the shooting sticks it can be a bit of hassle to get the gun moved with the sticks and in a stable position in a speedy and minimal movenment scenario

I am a bipod man myself I use Harris bipods. They are taller for the taller guy when he is sitting facing downhill. The only bad thing i have to say is that sometimes when the slides get damp or wet the freeze open and don't wanna collapse. I just need to do some preventative oiling thats all.

Try a small amount of Glycerin on your harris to help prevent them from freezeing up. I think it is best to have everything dry and clean with no lubricant, same with the gun but if you are wanting try some lubricant that is what I would use. No smell. They mix it with Urine to help prevent freezeing up in the sub. zero weather on your sets.

Bi -pod for me sticks seem to be just more stuff to keep track of and they are harder to move around in snow. You have to lift your gun then move the sticks if they don't get stuck then try to get all settled back on the sticks and then it seems like you have to move them again had some bad luck with sticks sorry for venting

I finally got a bipod this year and I will have to say I like it more than my sticks. One of the biggest things I like is I can have my gun sitting there and have my hands free for using binocs to glass around. Last year I used shooting sticks and I found myself having to have one hand on the gun all the time so it didn't tip over. I never used my binocs because of that. Well Papapete and I had some experiences this year calling where I WILL NOT go on stand without my binocs every again.

Re: Shooting sticks or Bi-pod
I guide hunters in Alaska, South Dakota, and Texas. The one piece of equipment that screws up more stands/hunts than anything else is bipods and shooting sticks. In my opinion, a hunter would help himself be WAY more successful if he would leave the stick/bibods at home and learn to shoot from a sitting, kneeling, prone position. Shooting sticks/bipods are a very marketable items but don't have the advertised advantage when put in a real world hunting situation. Just my opinion.

Where's Terry?
In case he's sunning himself on some beach somewhere, take a look at Snipe Pods as well.

Jim, I think if a hunter would practice with the sticks and use them at the range they would be better at applying the use in the field better, just like you said if they learn to shoot sitting, kneeling, prone or with the use of sticks they could be way more succesful.

Back to the topic, I would never leave home without my bipod! I know for a fact my confidence and ability to shoot a coyote out past 100 yards would be down the shitter
